Dayton Report reports the news of Dayton and the Miami Valley as accurately, fairly and plainly as we can. These are the standards every story is held to.
Accuracy
- Every figure comes from a named source: public records, government data, official releases, or the Dayton REALTORS® MLS. We cite the source on the page, with a link where one exists.
- We report what the record shows. We don’t guess, and we say so when data is incomplete or preliminary.
- When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. See corrections.
Sourcing
- Home sale information is based on information from the Dayton REALTORS® MLS and is credited on each article as the MLS’s rules require. We publish aggregates only from at least ten sales.
- Government data comes from the agency that publishes it (for example the Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, or the county board of elections), with the release date or period.
- Reporting from other local outlets is credited to them and linked; we don’t present it as our own.
Neutrality
- We don’t take sides on candidates, issues or ballot questions, and we don’t endorse.
- We describe what the data shows without spin, good or bad.
- Reader polls are occasional, offer neutral choices, and are never about individual people.
Independence from advertisers
- Advertisers and sponsors have no say in what we cover or how. Nobody can pay to have a story written, changed or removed.
- Ads and sponsorships are clearly labeled as sponsored, and are kept visually apart from news.
- Sponsored articles are labeled “Sponsored” at the top; they are paid for by the sponsor and edited to our standards.
- Political and issue ads, and ads for cannabis, firearms, adult content, gambling, cryptocurrency or payday lending, are never sold automatically; each is reviewed individually, and we may decline any ad.
People in the news
- Realtors are credited on home sale articles as the MLS lists them, and either agent can ask us to update or take down an article about their sale.
- We don’t publish home addresses of private individuals except as part of a public property sale record, and we don’t publish the names of buyers or sellers.
