About this data

Loans approved under the SBA’s two main business loan programs, 7(a) (general purpose) and 504 (real estate and equipment), counted by the county of the project and the calendar quarter of approval, from the SBA’s public loan files (fiscal 2010 on). Dollars are the gross amount approved; the SBA guarantees part of each 7(a) loan, and a 504 loan is made with a certified development company alongside a bank. Approvals can later be canceled, and the files are revised each quarter. Only counts and dollars are kept here; no borrower is named. Ohio’s total comes from the same files.
