About this data

Average retail prices collected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics for the Consumer Price Index, U.S. city average. BLS publishes Midwest averages for only some of these items and stopped publishing Midwest milk, eggs and coffee in 2026, so the U.S. averages are used for all six to keep the basket consistent; prices in Dayton stores can differ. The basket is one of each item and appears only for months when all six are priced. Figures are not adjusted for inflation or seasonality.
