About Baptist churches

Baptist churches baptize by immersion people old enough to profess their faith, and each congregation governs itself. Many belong to a larger convention, such as the Southern Baptist Convention, the American Baptist Churches USA or the National Baptist Convention. Practices vary from one congregation to another; this is general background, not a description of First Baptist Church.
