About this data
Each month, the median sale price of homes sold in the county (Dayton REALTORS® MLS closed sales; months with fewer than 10 sales are left out) is paired with that month’s average Freddie Mac 30-year fixed mortgage rate. The payment is principal and interest on a 30-year loan for 80% of the price (20% down); taxes, insurance and mortgage insurance are not included. That yearly payment is divided by the county’s median household income from the Census Bureau’s Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates. Income estimates come out about a year after the year they describe, so the most recent year carries forward until the next is published. A higher share means a median-priced home takes more of a typical household’s income.
