Dayton Report covers Dayton and Montgomery County: city and school board meetings, elections, jobs, home sales, new businesses and things to do. These are the standards we hold ourselves to.
Code of ethics
Dayton Report follows the Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics: seek truth and report it, minimize harm, act independently, and be accountable and transparent.
Sources
Our reporting comes from public records and official sources: government agendas, minutes and meeting video, election results, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data, federal award records, real estate sale records, and news releases from the organizations involved. Every story names its sources, and links to them where we can.
How stories are made
Some of our stories are written with the help of AI from the sources they cite. Those stories say so in a note at the top, along with the sources used. Our data reports, such as the monthly jobs report and the weekly top home sales, are built directly from the official numbers.
Fairness
We report what the records and data show, whichever way they point, without spin. We don’t publish opinion pieces, endorsements or editorials, and we attribute any view in a story to the person or organization that holds it.
Independence
Advertising is always labeled and kept separate from news. Advertisers and sponsors have no say in what we cover or how. We don’t accept payment for news coverage.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it and say so: corrections are noted at the end of the story with the date. To report an error, email info@daytonreport.com.
Dates
Every story shows when it was published. When a story is updated, the update is dated.
